Simple Control Legacy (Formerly Roomie Remote) App Reviews

Awesome app

I never touch my remotes anymore... One touch brings everything up for what every I need... TV, AppleTV, Music.... Sets the temp and sets the lights to the right mood.

THE only way to automate a home

I have used Simple Control since the beginning. Anyone considering a $100k automation system should think again. This app combined with IP control is by far the cutting edge way to go.

Very Capable

This app supports so many devices and is very capable. I stopped using my universal remote and use this instead.

Features and functionality decrease since Simple Control takeover

Since the change from Roomie to Simple Control, I have no mute button and the appearance of all the icons/options for watching TV, listening to music, etc. are very small and not visually appealing like they were previously. I was told this would be fixed in the next update. That was over 6 months ago.....Dear Simple Control, listen to your customers and fix this app!!!

Awesome!

Love the app and the support!

No no no

Will not find my cable box and you must buy service to use on your Apple Watch. Not worth the time and money. Same!

Developer has sold me features and then made them subscription only - and is hostile when contacted

Title says it all. This app used to let me use its widget as I unlocked that functionality. Now, thats part of a subscription based service, and it doesnt work. Developer meets constructive criticism with a ban stick, and is generally rude and difficult to deal with. (Found out while politely asking about why some echo integration is better than others. Quite shocked as normally these people want you to continue to buy their products, and Ive never been spoke to like that without provocation. Buyer beware

Best remote app

This is by far the best remote app out there. It is worth every penny even with all the add ons. I would highly recommend this app.

I just makes sense - and works!

This is exactly what I need. I dont need any more hardware in my house and I cant imagine paying for something that will become dated and need to be replaced in the not too distant future. I LOVE the TV guide on my lap vs on the screen. Great product.

Still the best for what I need!

Love the interface and the huge compatibility catalog. My only wish is for support for a simple remote with real buttons in addition to the app. E.g. The Apple TV remote or something like it for play/pause and a couple of programmable buttons. Thats of course just my personal preference. Other than that keep up the good work.

Best Remote Overall hands down

The Simple Control remote app is a superior remote in nearly every way to any of the Logitech products or other universal remotes out there. I would strongly suggest that if youre going to buy the "Simple Service" so you can control more than three devices, that you NOT purchase it through the in-app purchase thats available in this "Simple Control" app. I bought mine right through their website. Long story short the in-app purchase was messed up by apple and I requested a refund. I contacted the Simple Control support, WHICH IS TOP NOTCH (thanks WILL), and they suggested I try to purchase the Simple Service option from their online store. THIS WORKED LIKE A CHARM! Nearly all new A/V products are supporting wireless network connections, which makes this App, with IP commands that much better. It will control my home theater by simply opening the App and selecting "Home Theater" and pressing the "ON" button. The Sharp AQUOS Q+ Smart TV, Marantz 5010 A/V receiver, and either Blu-Ray player, HD Cable or Apple TV 4th generation all turn on with that one press of a button. Ive configured it to select the video source with another "one button" select. Now, I want to tell you that you will be required to spend some time setting this remote up for all your devices. It will control all of your devices on your wireless network through IP commands right away. For devices that use the IR remote controls (a little older equipment), you will need to purchase additional equipment such as IR "blasters/repeaters" AND a subscription to the "SIMPLE SERVICE" product offered as an In-App purchase. I subscribed to the 20 device "simple service" for thirty bucks a year. So for the first year, this FULL functionality whole home controller cost me forty bucks. A Logitech Harmony higher end remote is three hundred bucks, yet still lacks functionality and simplicity of the Simple Control app. My comparison is like comparing the graceful appearance and simple to use architecture of an Apple computer, to that of a PC running Windows Vista. Simple Control is the Apple Mac product of Remote control. Logitech is the Windows Vista PC.

Peeps

Junk dont work dont waste your money on this app I sent an email for help and got no reply I even asked for my money back and no reply dont waste your money this is a terrible app would have given it a zero if you cant understand this app and are looking for help youre going to be in the dark just like I was they take your money and thats it and youll never hear from them again

Best remote Ive ever had!

Finally a reliable solution for all my devices. Once you get the hang of it, is the best application in combination with a blaster (wifi). Strongly recommended!

Need refund please

Hi Im sure this app is really great. But unfortunately it just does not work for me and I please like a refund.

Dont waste your money & time

Looked up what devices I had would work with this and it said that all my devices would work. Some did connect others did not. All my equipment is less then a year old and all of it is compatible. The setup is horrible and after days of trying to connect my AV receiver Im giving up. Very poor directions & is not user friendly at all.

SimpleControl is a home run in AV control apps.

The perfect app for my system. SimpleControl has an enormous database of devices. The support is great and the app just works as it should.

Whole home control

Simple Control is a fraction of the cost of competing systems. The biggest value for me is the guide service. Seeing what is on TV without blocking the picture is very useful. Once you have guides, you can not live without them. I don’t think guides are even an option with most of the big buck systems.

Keeps getting better

They make small incremental progress with each release, by now this is one of the greatest apps in the space. Not without the occasional hiccup and some design issues. This app does exactly what it promises... the negative reviews probably havent read, there is some hardware required for your IR components.

Pronto Replacement

I originally had a Pronto. My wife disliked the price but came to love how easy it was to work. After it died I looked for something economical that would come close to doing what the Pronto would do. This remote has met the challenge. There are a few things I think could be better but overall it is a good remote.

Best Home Theater App, period.

I have been a Harmony user for well over a decade. Ive wanted to switch to another solution since the iPhone opened up its APIs... Ive even tinkered with my own bespoke apps to talk to my devices over IP. Then along came Roomie. The first couple of versions just didnt pull me in, but a few weeks ago I took the 3.0 plunge... I got the converter so I could control my one IR holdout, and wow, wow, wow. Fan-freaking-tastic. I only wish I had several rooms I needed to control because I would be all over using Roomie to do this. I have all the devices in my media closet using Roomie, along with my Hues and Nest. If youre frustrated by the cost, then youre not thinking about this right. A decent universal remote is a few hundred dollars. Roomie, the IAP, and converter are still a fraction of the cost of anything youd go grab at your local retailer.
